It’s really easy to act like an unapologetically proud and strong lgbt+ person on tumblr.com™️ but the level of pressure that comes from being an lgbt+ person, especially one who has a different gender presentation and/or is a person of color, in a professional setting is really taxing.

People really don’t talk about how much lgbt+ folks have to buy into respectability politics just to hold down a job and be taken seriously by coworkers. In 2019, it is still too radical to advocate for yourself & others in a workplace, especially when you’re already seen as filling a diversity quota. Basically you have to choose between isolating your source of income and advocating for your own humanity on a situational basis and it’s… not great.
